An Estimated $6,000 in Annual Savings Anticipated from Barclay Greenmount Weatherization Program

Baltimore, Md., December 2, 2011--- Residents of Barclay Greenmount Apartments (BGA) are participating in the Baltimore Housing Department's comprehensive Weatherization Program, according to Allison Pendell Jones, assistant director of residence services, AHC Greater Baltimore,  a developer of affordable apartment communities in the greater Baltimore region, including the 139-unit BGA.

According to Pendell Jones, the anticipated savings per apartment from the program are estimated at $6,000 annually or $834,000 for the BGA community.

The city's weatherization program is a federally funded effort to promote energy conservation, especially targeting the reduction of utility bills, for low income homeowners and renters residing in Baltimore.

The program begins with a thorough energy audit to identify leaks and drafts and then provides no cost cleaning and tuning of furnaces, sealing and insulating duct work and other similar energy conservation tasks.

“This is such a great program that offers residents the opportunity to better manage their year-round utility costs and realize real savings,” said Pendell Jones.  “It's great that so many residents are participating!”
